Working Hard

Ben is sooo awesome.  We have to have conversations in Spanish when I get back.  So tomorrow Elder Holland comes and we are way excited.  The meeting starts at 10:00 but we are told that we have to be there by at least 8:00.  So the 4 of us elders in our pension are planning to get there at 4:30. Yeah we are nuts!  But it will be worth it. And I will let you all in on the crazy knowledge that he gives us.

Yesterday was a pretty good day.  I confirmed my second member here in the mission and it went great.  I literally did not think of anything that I was saying, the words just flowed through my mouth.  The only problem is that now we have very few people we can teach.  We did, however, find a family a few days ago.  I am not sure if they are married.  But the "husband" said that he lived in Utah for a long time.  He said he live in Orem, Provo, Brigham City and Las Vegas.  He said that the Mormons really helped him out over there and so he offered us free food anytime we want (sweet).  So we spent a little time getting to know them.  They have a son who is about five years old.  Right as we were leaving they mentioned that they have various problems, so we said that the gospel can help them out.  So today we are going to pass by and teach them a little and hopefully help them out.

Other than that family we have been walking around talking to people most hours of the day.  Hopefully we can find more, we will keep trying.  At the beginning of doing a street contact it's really awkward but I've found that it really helps if you just ask tons of questions so that they just keep sharing more and more of their life.  Then you try to apply a gospel principle to what they are going through.  About half of the time it works, but I think that's just because I'm bad at it.  Don't worry though I will keep practicing.  I will get so good at it that it will just feel natural to talk with everyone I see.

We played basketball today for p-day with a bunch of elders and it was awesome.  It had been a while since I had played.  We also played soccer which I love now.  It is so much fun to play.  But I did get sun burnt because the ozone layer doesn't exist here. We also cut our hair yesterday, because Holland is coming.  My hair is really short now.  I let it grow out pretty long and just slicked it back, so that it looked alright.  Before we cut it all off we cut it like the ghetto kids here, and it was hilarious.  My companion has a machine to cut hair so we all cut each others hair...it looks ok.  But from now on I am going to a professional place to get my hair cut.

The 18 of September is like fourth of July for us.  But for Chileans it's a week long celebration of grilling meat.  It is fantastic.  Generally we eat rice and chicken but sometimes they change it up to mashed potatoes and some other meat.  When we don't have lunch some days we have to cook for ourselves.  Something simple like noodles and tomato sauce.  And we are allowed to go to the temple once every year.  I haven't gone yet this year so I will be going soon.

And yeah thats it!  Let you guys know how this week goes!

Love Elder Nate Lee
